What are Logarithms

The logarithm is the degree to which the base must be raised in order to get an argument, i.e. function of two variables. The base-a logarithm of argument x is the degree to which the number a must be raised to obtain the number x.

Designation: logax = b, where a is the base, x is the argument, b is, in fact, what the logarithm is. For example, 23 = 8 ⇒ log28 = 3 (the logarithm of base 2 of 8 is three, because 23 = 8) . With the same success, log264 = 6, since 26 = 64.
